Personality

The Devon Rex loves to be in the middle of anything that is going on in the home. As a matter of fact his favorite spot is on your shoulder. Very friendly, he loves people and will welcome anyone to pet and play with him.

Fairly active, this kitty is quite smart so interactive toys work best. The Devon Rex can also be taught tricks and to fetch like a dog. The Devon Rex also loves to eat and will have no problem stealing food off your plate if not watched carefully.

The Devon Rex loves heat and will curl up under the covers on your stomach at night to sleep. You can also find him snoozing in the best sunspot in the house. If you have a sunny window this is the perfect place to put a cat tree or window perch.

Care

The Devon Rex’s short wavy coat is simple to care for. A gentle hand brushing is all this cat needs. Baths are not required unless the Devon gets dirty.

Brush teeth daily of possible. Nails should be trimmed monthly. Eye discharge can be cleaned with a clean soft damp cloth. Check ears regularly and clean any dirt with a cotton ball. If the ears smell yeasty or your cat is shaking his head a lot seek medical attention.

The litter box should be cleaned daily. A dirty box can result in your Devon Rex eliminating in other areas of your home.

The Devon should be kept inside or supervised or in a cat enclosure outdoors. This will prevent harm due to predators like dogs or coyotes, diseases from other cats and someone stealing this beautiful cat. If your cat does spend time outside be sure to use kitty safe sunscreen on sunny days.

Coat Color

The Devon Rex coat can be just about any color or pattern. The soft, fine fur can come in shades of black, white, brown, blue, red and lilac. The Rex may also have a white undercoat with colored tips. Patterns range from tabby and tortoiseshell to pointed.

Children and Other Pets

The Devon Rex is a perfect addition to any family. Super social they interact well with kids and other pets. Children can have fun teaching their Devon to fetch as well as other tricks. These cats thrive on attention from children. However, they are slender and somewhat fragile so it is important to teach a child to handle these cats with gentleness.
