The Chartreux Cat
Quiet as a…er…mouse, and silly as a goose, the Chartreux much prefers to eat and sleep with some fun short play sessions to break up the day. He loves being near his people and will follow you from room to room patiently waiting for attention. His favorite? A scratch under the chin or behind the ears will earn you a loud purr. Because the Chartreux is not a vocal cat it is important to pay attention to body language.
The Chartreux is fairly adaptable to all types of households. Very calm, he is quite content staying at home alone while you work. He will not object to another cat or cat-friendly dog as company. This cat is quite suited to the long-distance truck driver or the RV lovers. He travels very well.
The Chartreux is a happy kitty and will willingly obey any rules you set down. He is also unfailingly polite. Treated with kindness, love and patience he will be a devoted companion for life.

Chartreux cats are quite healthy. There is a potential for patellar luxation (displacement of the kneecap) which is easily treated with surgery.
While the Chartreux may need extra brushing in the spring as he does shed, a weekly run through that short thick coat is sufficient. The Chartreux’s coat is somewhat water-repellant so should he require a bath be sure to soak the fur well.
Brush teeth daily of possible. Nails should be trimmed monthly. Eye discharge can be cleaned with a clean soft damp cloth. Check ears regularly and clean any dirt with a cotton ball. If the ears smell yeasty or your cat is shaking his head a lot seek medical attention.
The litter box should be cleaned daily. A dirty box can result in your Chartreux eliminating in other areas of your home.
The Chartreux should be kept inside or supervised or in a cat enclosure outdoors. This will prevent harm due to predators like dogs or coyotes, diseases from other cats and someone stealing this beautiful cat.
The Chartreux has a water-repellent woolly coat. It can be any shade of blue gray. Some Chartreux have silver on the tips of their fur. There eyes are a brilliant orange. Some kittens may be born with tail rings or a tabby pattern but this disappears as the cat matures.
Children and Other Pets
The Chartreux is a very gentle cat. He will walk away before he lashes out. Therefore it is important to teach children gentleness when handling this kitty. He is fine with other animals in the household as long as they are fine with him.
